IGP Disu’s Assures On Rescue of Abducted Oyo Pupils Unhurt.

The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for his firm assurance that the schoolchildren recently abducted in Oyo State will be rescued unharmed, describing the pledge as a reflection of the professionalism, confidence, and operational effectiveness that have come to define the current leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement signed by CCAN Chairman, Festus Fifen, and Secretary, Peter Ireh, the association said the Inspector-General’s assurance has brought renewed hope to anxious families and Nigerians, while reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and confronting criminal elements across the country.

According to the association, IGP Disu’s confidence that the abducted children will return safely to their families reflects the intelligence-driven and result-oriented policing strategy that has delivered notable successes against kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes nationwide.

“At a moment of national anxiety over the fate of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren, the Inspector-General’s assurance that they will be rescued unhurt reflects not only confidence in the operational capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force but also an unwavering commitment to ensuring that every mission reaches a successful conclusion,” CCAN stated.

The association noted that under IGP Disu’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant progress through enhanced intelligence gathering, strategic security operations, community engagement, transparency, and accountability.

CCAN observed that security operatives under the Inspector-General’s command have arrested hundreds of suspected criminals, including kidnappers, armed robbers, terrorists, cultists, and murder suspects, while rescuing at least 277 kidnap victims in coordinated operations across the country.

The association specifically highlighted the successful rescue of Adeola Adelabu’s sister, Mrs. Olaide Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on June 3, 2026, describing the operation as one of the many notable achievements that demonstrate the effectiveness of the Force’s evolving intelligence-led policing strategy.

According to CCAN, the safe recovery of the victims further reinforced public confidence in the ability of the Nigeria Police Force to respond swiftly and professionally to security challenges while prioritising the safety of victims.

Describing the ongoing reforms and operational successes as a major boost to national security, the association said:

“The Nigeria Police Force is witnessing a renewed sense of purpose under IGP Disu’s leadership. From the rescue of kidnap victims, including Adeola Adelabu, her sister, and their children, to the dismantling of criminal networks and enhanced security operations across the country, Nigerians are beginning to see the impact of focused and strategic policing.”

The association further applauded the Inspector-General’s determination to reform and reposition the Force through people-focused initiatives and modern policing strategies.

“We commend your unwavering commitment to rebranding the Nigeria Police Force. Through deliberate reforms and citizen-centred policies, your administration has begun dismantling long-standing negative perceptions and rebuilding public trust in the institution.”

CCAN also highlighted the growing emphasis on intelligence-led policing and public engagement under the current leadership, noting that the approach is gradually transforming how Nigerians perceive law enforcement.

“From the tactical handling of high-profile criminal cases to the renewed focus on intelligence-led policing, you have demonstrated that effective policing can be firm, professional, and respectful of citizens’ rights.”

One of the most visible achievements of the current police leadership, the association noted, is the improvement in relations between police officers and the public, while also maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within the Force.

“Most notably, we acknowledge the significant shift in police-citizen relations. Under your leadership, the police are increasingly viewed as partners in security rather than adversaries. The reduction in arbitrary arrests, improved response to distress calls, and the establishment of more transparent communication channels have helped restore confidence that had long been eroded.”

CCAN urged the Inspector-General to sustain the momentum by deepening ongoing reforms, strengthening professionalism, and intensifying efforts against criminality to ensure a safer and more secure nation.

“As you continue to lead the Nigeria Police Force, CCAN pledges its support for your efforts to rid the nation of crime and criminality. We encourage you to remain steadfast in pursuing reforms despite the challenges that accompany the office.”

The association expressed confidence that the achievements recorded so far represent the foundation of a broader transformation agenda for the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Disu’s leadership.
