ADEYANJU URGES INEC TO ACT NOW, REMOVE NAMES OF AFFECTED CANDIDATES IN LINE WITH SUPREME COURT DECISION
Deji Adeyanju has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately comply with the recent decision of the Supreme Court concerning the Electoral Act.
Adeyanju said the electoral commission is required to act in accordance with the judgment and ensure that all necessary steps are taken to give effect to the decision of the apex court.
He cited Section 287(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, which provides for the enforcement of decisions of the Supreme Court by all authorities and persons.
According to him, INEC should immediately remove from its official portal the names of all candidates of political parties affected by the Supreme Court judgment and make the necessary adjustments in line with the court’s orders.
Adeyanju further urged the commission to ensure full and timely compliance with the judgment, stressing that implementation should be carried out without delay or selective application of the court’s decision.
