NiMet Launches Innovation Committee To Accelerate Research, Digital Transformation And Service Excellence

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has inaugurated its Service Innovation Committee as part of a strategic move to strengthen research, accelerate digital transformation, and enhance service delivery across the Agency.

Speaking during the inauguration at NiMet Headquarters in Abuja, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, described innovation as a cornerstone of the Agency’s current administration, emphasizing that scientific discoveries and research must be translated into practical solutions that create value for society.

Professor Anosike highlighted key reforms implemented since assuming office, including modernization of operations, improved weather and climate services, enhanced stakeholder engagement, staff capacity development, expanded partnerships, and the deployment of digital technologies to boost efficiency and decision-making.

He noted that the newly inaugurated Committee will drive climate-smart innovations, support research and development initiatives, provide evidence-based recommendations, and oversee the implementation of innovation projects across the Agency. According to him, the Committee formalizes NiMet’s commitment to continuous improvement and organizational excellence.

The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s public service reform agenda and reinforces NiMet’s determination to build a culture of professionalism, innovation, and scientific excellence capable of meeting emerging environmental, technological, and stakeholder demands in a rapidly changing world.

 

NiMet takes a major step toward the future with the inauguration of its Service Innovation Committee, aimed at driving research, digital transformation, and climate-smart solutions for improved weather and climate services nationwide.
