Firstmade Community Drive Foundation Empowers Over 400 Kogi Schoolgirls with Free Sanitary Pads, Menstrual Health Education.

The Firstmade Community Drive Foundation has empowered more than 400 female students from 20 secondary schools in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State through a life-changing programme focused on menstrual health, personal hygiene, self-esteem, leadership development, and girls’ education.

The outreach, held on July 28, brought together students, teachers, community leaders, health advocates, and government officials to address key issues affecting the girl child, while promoting confidence, dignity, and regular school attendance. The event concluded with the distribution of free sanitary pads to all participating students.

Speaking at the programme, the Founder of the Foundation, Mr. Olufemi Olusanya, said empowering girls at an early age is essential for building stronger families and communities. He urged the students to maintain good personal hygiene, remain committed to their education, and develop the confidence needed to achieve their dreams.

According to him, every girl deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe and supportive environment where she can realise her full potential and contribute positively to society.

Also speaking, Sam Osagbemi Petra said investing in girls is an investment in Nigeria’s future, noting that educated and confident girls are more likely to become responsible mothers, professionals, and community leaders.

Guest speakers Ogunjobi Bosede, Abiodun Oluwakemi, and Christiana Sunday encouraged the students to value themselves, avoid situations that expose them to abuse, and embrace self-confidence. They also called on parents, schools, and society to provide equal opportunities for girls and recognise their important role in national development.

The initiative received widespread support from community leaders and education stakeholders. Representing the Vice Chairman of Yagba West Local Government, Fatimah Jubril described access to sanitary products as a major boost to girls’ confidence, hygiene, and classroom participation.

The wife of the Elegbe of Egbe, Olori Ibilola Irukera, urged families to prepare girls socially, spiritually, and economically, while the Education Secretary of Yagba West LGA, Mr. Michael Ogunjobi, emphasised the need for greater care and support for girls because of their unique biological and health needs.

The Principal of Totcombe College, Egbe, Mr. John Ajayi, commended the Foundation for providing students with valuable knowledge about menstrual hygiene, personal development, and self-esteem.

Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the programme, saying they gained a better understanding of menstrual hygiene, personal cleanliness, self-worth, and the importance of believing in themselves.

By combining health education, girl-child empowerment, and the distribution of free sanitary pads, the Firstmade Community Drive Foundation continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young girls in Kogi State, helping them stay healthy, remain in school, and pursue a brighter future with confidence.
