NiMet Hosts Inter-Agency Meeting Ahead of Nigeria’s EW4All Launch

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has hosted an inter-agency meeting as part of preparations for the official launch of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative in Nigeria.

The meeting, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, was chaired by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, and brought together key government agencies and development partners involved in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience and early warning systems.

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, attended the meeting, while the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, participated virtually.

Also represented were the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed; the Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju; and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
During the meeting, the Local Organising Committee presented a progress report on preparations for the national launch of the initiative.

The report highlighted key inter-agency engagements, milestones recorded and priority actions required to ensure a successful launch and effective implementation.

The Inter-Agency Technical Committee also presented the Nigeria EW4All Implementation Roadmap 2026–2029, which provides a framework for coordinated implementation of the initiative and identifies priority actions for strengthening early warning systems across the country.

The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration among relevant institutions in developing people-centred and multi-hazard early warning systems capable of reaching vulnerable communities and providing timely information to help prevent loss of lives and property.

The participating agencies reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness, climate resilience and coordinated early warning mechanisms as Nigeria prepares to officially launch the EW4All Initiative.

The initiative is expected to further enhance Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate, prepare for and respond effectively to weather, climate and other hazards through stronger institutional coordination and improved access to timely early warning information.
