Arewa Youths for Peace and Security have called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately investigate the alleged attack on the residence of Hon. Bakare Mudasir Olajide, popularly known as Awuyewuye, an Accord Party chieftain in Ilesa, Osun State.

According to the group, the incident allegedly occurred on August 8, 2026, when suspected political thugs invaded the residence and reportedly fired live ammunition at the roof of the building. The group said it was only by divine intervention that Hon. Bakare, his family and other occupants escaped unhurt.

Arewa Youths for Peace and Security expressed concern over what it described as the alleged failure of the relevant security agencies to commence a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The group urged the Inspector-General of Police to direct the Osun State Commissioner of Police to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible, if found culpable.

The group stressed that an alleged attack of such magnitude should not be treated lightly, warning that failure to investigate incidents of suspected political violence could embolden criminal elements and create room for more serious attacks.

While congratulating Osun State Governor, Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, on his electoral victory, the group commended what it described as his maturity in handling political tensions, noting that responsible leadership and timely intervention by security agencies remain essential to maintaining peace in the state.

The group also called for a thorough investigation into other alleged incidents of political violence in Osun State, including claims surrounding an alleged attempted attack on the governor at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.

“Only God saved Hon. Bakare Mudasir Olajide and his family from what could have resulted in a tragic loss of lives,” the group stated, insisting that the rule of law must apply to everyone irrespective of political affiliation.

Arewa Youths for Peace and Security, writing from Abuja, therefore urged the police and DSS to act swiftly, conduct an unhindered investigation, and ensure that anyone found responsible faces the full weight of the law.
