Adeyanju Blast Rising Terrorism Says Nigerians Have Been Abandoned To Criminals.

Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has strongly condemned the recent wave of terrorist attacks and mass abductions across Nigeria, particularly the kidnapping of members of his community in Kogi State. He described the worsening security situation as alarming and unacceptable, expressing concern over the growing fear among citizens who now live under the constant threat of attacks by armed groups.

In a statement released on the development, Adeyanju alleged that the Federal Government has failed to effectively confront the escalating insecurity. According to him, the continuous attacks by terrorists and bandits across various parts of the country create the impression that the government has surrendered vast areas of Nigeria to criminal elements while focusing more attention on political calculations ahead of future elections.

The activist questioned how heavily armed terrorists are able to move freely from one state to another, carrying out mass abductions and violent attacks without being challenged by security forces. He noted that despite the existence of a constituted government and multiple security agencies, Nigerians are repeatedly confronted with reports of kidnappings, ransom payments, and the eventual release of victims without any meaningful arrests or prosecution of those responsible.

Adeyanju further lamented what he described as a dangerous pattern in the country’s response to terrorism. He argued that citizens are increasingly hearing stories of negotiations with terrorists and the payment of huge sums as ransom, while the perpetrators continue to operate with apparent impunity.

According to him, this has emboldened criminal groups and encouraged the expansion of kidnapping and banditry across the nation.

He warned that the continued engagement and negotiation with terrorist groups by both state and non-state actors is fueling the spread of terrorism like wildfire throughout Nigeria.

Adeyanju called on the government to adopt a more decisive strategy focused on dismantling terrorist networks, arresting perpetrators, and restoring public confidence in the nation’s security architecture before the situation deteriorates further.
