CSOs Praise Nigeria Correctional Service for Reforms, Call for More Support

The Director General of the National Council For Civil Society Organisations (NACCSO) and Vision-One Leadership Development Initiative (VOLDI), *Rt. Comrade Emmanuel Johnny,* has lauded the Nigeria Correctional Service for its remarkable reforms. Speaking at the conclusion of an inmates’ convocation ceremony by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Johnny commended the Service for successfully implementing its core mandate despite operating with limited resources.

Accompanied by Comrade Okpanachi Jacob, Director of Information and Strategy at NACCSO, Johnny inspected the facilities at Kuje Correctional Centre and expressed admiration for the rehabilitation programmes being run for inmates. He applauded the management of the Nigeria Correctional Service for their transparency, dedication, and focus on empowering inmates with skills to become productive citizens upon release.

In his address, Johnny encouraged the inmates to remain focused on their rehabilitation and to cultivate a spirit of patriotism, emphasizing the importance of being law-abiding citizens. He conveyed a message of peace and hope, assuring them that the Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is working diligently to ensure Nigeria fulfills its destiny.

Furthermore, the CSOs boss called on relevant stakeholders across the nation to collaborate with the Nigeria Correctional Service to enhance rehabilitation programmes for inmates. They also urged the federal government to allocate adequate attention and resources to these initiatives, including reviewing the logistics needs of the Service to support its reform efforts.

Johnny added by informing the graduated inmates that their degree is a renewed hope for a better life in the future. Congratulations, he added.
