World Communication Day: Bishop Musa Calls For Truthful, Human-Centered Communication. 

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) on Sunday commemorated World Communication Day 2026 in Abuja with a strong call for truthful communication, responsible social media use, and deeper human relationships in the digital age.

Speaking during the celebration,Chairman of the Department of Communications of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria and Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina, Most Rev. Gerald Mamman Musa,  said this year’s theme, “Preserving Human Voices and Faces,” challenges Christians and media users to protect truth, authenticity, and human dignity online.

The Bishop warned that , although technology has made communication faster and easier, many people are becoming spiritually and emotionally disconnected despite being constantly connected digitally.

Drawing lessons from the Apostles after the ascension of Jesus, Bishop Musa said prayer remains the “master key” to courage, wisdom, and endurance, noting that the disciples overcame fear by gathering in the Upper Room to pray while awaiting the Holy Spirit.

He explained that the Upper Room represents unity, spiritual revival, and communion with God, especially as Christians prepare for Pentecost through prayer and reflection.

Reflecting on the COVID-19 lockdown period, the cleric recalled how online Masses connected worshippers across different countries but still lacked the human presence and physical interaction that make communal worship complete.

Bishop Musa also raised concerns over fake identities, misinformation, and deceptive content on social media, stressing that many users now hide behind anonymous accounts to spread harmful narratives.

He urged Christians, journalists, and digital content creators to use communication platforms to spread truth, peace, hope, and Gospel values, noting that in today’s world, everyone with a mobile phone has become a communicator.
